The Complete Oral Hygiene Checklist!

By Arthur Kezian
Well, we live a life full of multitasking these days, at least Dr. Kezian thinks so. Take your brushing style for example. While brushing, you’re not only brushing but you’re engaged in a second activity. This causes you to not pay full attention to your teeth, thus inaccurately brushing your teeth – It’s worse than an un-brushed mouth. But the tale does not end here. In fact, if you are a working adult and live a super busy life, then chances are that you may even avoid your brushing habit with the help of a mouth freshener. All these habits may help you finish your work faster, but may cost you expensive dental bills in the future. By this point the problem has reached severity, then you may become a lifetime patient. Preventive dentistry suggests that only a few minutes of your daily life can save you from running a bigger problem.
Gum_disease
Characteristics of a Healthy Mouth
·         Teeth are clean, white and debris-free.
·         Gums are pink and do not bleed while brushing or flossing
·         Bad breathe is not persistent
If your gums bleed during brushing or flossing, or if you consistently have bad, then this may be an alarm or risk. These issues indicate an oral health problem. In this case, you should contact Dr. Kezian and staff as quickly as possible for proper advice and treatment.
What Is a Good Oral Hygiene?
The following are important for good oral hygiene:
·         Proper Brushing Technique
·         Proper Flossing Technique
·         Regular Oral Health Checkups
Proper Brushing Technique
First of all stop doing anything else and focus only on brushing. After that:
·         Tilt the brush at 45° angle against the gumline and sweep brush away from the gumline.
·         Smoothly brush the inside, outside and chewing surface of the tooth using small back and forth strokes.
·         Smoothly brush your tongue for removing the bacteria. This will also provide fresh breath for a long time.
·         Brush your teeth at least two times a day.
The American Dental Association says that you should brush your teeth for at least two minutes during each session. Brushing too quickly does not provide proper cleaning to the teeth and worsens the condition reversely.
Heart_disease
Proper Flossing Technique
Flossing your teeth regularly and properly at night is also an important step for good oral hygiene. It adds significant weight to the possibilities of a healthy mouth.
·         Take 18” of floss and leave only one or two inches to work with.
·         Smoothly floss the curves of your teeth.
·         Ensure that you clean beneath the gumline, but avoid flossing the gums because it may result in bleeding.
And finally, please do not forget a regular oral health check after every 6 months. These checkups allow you to be prepared for future health risks and if a problem is caught in earlier stages then it’s treatment becomes easier.
These are some common recommendations of preventive dentistry and completion of them will provide you a mouth that looks and feels healthy and fresh. A healthy mouth will ultimately allow you protection from several other health issues. These small precautions can save you a lot of time, money and energy in the future. So, for maintaining your oral health and avoiding future problems, please contact Dr. Kezian today for a dental checkup.

Door To Periodontal Disease:

·         Lack of dental health can create numerous diseases in the mouth like tooth decay, plaque, periodontal disease, temporomandibular joint disorder and so on. Plaque normally develops when particles of food containing carbohydrates such as milk, soft drinks, raisins, cakes are left on the teeth. The bacteria in the mouth thrive on this and produce acids which destroy the tooth enamel and root and break down the bone support of the teeth.
·         Gingivitis or periodontal disease is caused due to plaque which develops inflammation in the gums and the bacteria formed enters the blood stream and affects the heart and brain. Studies have found that the bacteria in the arteries of heart and brain of Alzheimer patients stem from gum disease.
·         TMJ disease or temporomandibular joint disorder is created by acute plaque and gingivitis which affects the jaw joint and facial muscles. TMJ disease can cause massive tooth pain and gum problems which in turn affects chewing. Lack of dental hygiene can cause pregnant women to have a higher risk of premature delivery. Babies born prematurely run the risk of behavioral and developmental problems.

Sleep Disorder Due To Bad Dental Hygiene:

  • Acute dental problems can create a symptom called Obstructive sleep apnea. Due to the failure of the brain to activate the muscles of breathing, reduction or cessation of breathing collapses the airway during sleep. Complications due to this can lead to high blood pressure, strokes, heart diseases and difficulty in concentrating, thinking and remembering.
  • Good dental health should start from the infancy stage. Everybody including children should be encouraged to brush after every meal or at least twice a day. Flossing should be done every day after brushing to break the plaque between the teeth and under the gums which removes all the food particles missed during brushing. Flossing should be done with about 18 inches of floss wrapped around your middle finger and hand and work the floss up and down between the teeth. Flossing should be done below the gum line and every tooth in the mouth. People with bridges, braces and other dental fixtures may need a threader to clean the teeth with the help of a preventive dentist. Diet plays an important role in dental health. Food with the necessary vitamins and minerals should be consumed for healthy teeth and gums.

The Glorious History of Dentistry!

By Arthur Kezian
In Dr. Kezians opinion, today’s scientific advancements have given a new life to dentistry; a life, that has astonished everyone. A lot of things have been changed since the 17th century, but some things are still the same. For example – no one liked dental problems and no one likes them today either. No one liked going to a surgeon and many still do not like to go. In the timespan of the 17th to 19th century, there was no such thing as a specialty dentist. There was no treatment for a dental infection. Then many big changes and advancements came in a time when our grandparents were kids and those changes created a base for today’s astonishing dentistry. In honor of our grandparents and people who gave a new life to dentistry, we are eager to tell you some interesting points about the glorious history of dentistry.
Dentist
The Dentistry of 17th Century – 18th century:
·         There was a time when ‘nearly nothing’ was known about how the body worked.
·         A barber surgeon used to be the dentist of that time. When people found themselves suffering from severe toothache, they used to go to a local barber surgeon. The surgeon then extracted the rotten tooth away from the mouth.
·         Often it also involved tying a string around the tooth.
·         People used to play a drum near the patient for distracting him/her. The drum used to get louder as extraction came closer.
·         For advertising themselves as tooth-pullers, those barber surgeons used to hang large rows of rotten teeth on the entrance of their shops.
The Dentistry of 19th Century:
·         In the 19th century, people had a better idea about how the body worked, including teeth.
·         This was the time when humans discovered more about the functionality of human body, which ultimately kept a base for medical science. Physicians started paying attention to dental needs.
·         Later in the same century, electricity came as a revolution to life and gave way to new advancements. This invention also gave a new standard for medical science and dentistry.
·         Many of the dental specialties of today emerged from this century. For example: Orthodontics (1901), Oral Surgery (1918), Periodontics (1918), Prosthodontics (1918), Pedodontics (1927) and Oral Pathology (1946).
·         Later in this century, dentistry emerged as a licensed profession.
Dentist_in_los_angeles
The Dentistry of 20th Century:
·         20th century gave a totally new and height to dentistry. Fluoride Treatments came into existence.
·         Concept of oral-systematic health started developing. More professionals started paying attention towards dental problems which ultimately resulted in more dentists.
·         Penicillin discovery gave a new height to dentistry.
·         In this century people realized that the profession of dentistry is a safe career choice.
So, you can see that our grandparents grew up in a very fascinating time of dentistry. And advancement in dentistry has not yet stopped; it is continuously increasing in pace, because now there are several scientists all over the world who are doing research and making new iventions that are making dentistry easier and less invasive. We are very thankful to these scientists who work hard to make dentistry easier. There is no doubt that their inventions will send today’s dentistry to a new height and standard.
Dr. Kezian has been one of the most trusted dentists for many years. He and his staff are witness to advancement that took place in the 20th century. From the start of the 20th century, Dr. Kezian and staff have satisfied their patients. So if you are suffering from any dental health issue, then feel free to meet them for a solution.

Dental Health: Flossing is Very Important

By Arthur Kezian
Did you know that having good dental care can affect arthritis in the knees? Recent studies have proven that there is a direct correlation between arthritis and the teeth in your mouth. Dr. Kezian knows that this is an issue and wants all of his patients – and those who may read this – to consider the following points.
How Does It Affect Your Knees?
·         The same bacterium that is found in patients who have gum disease are oftentimes found in the knees. This can cause osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
·         Researchers believe that the bacterium travels the blood stream and affects different parts of the body. If a body part has pre-existing inflammation, then the inflammation grows when the bacteria from the mouth presents itself.
Oral_hygiene
What To Do?
·         Having good oral hygiene can make all the difference in your physical body’s affect to sicknesses. Studies have shown that many diseases are related to bad hygiene in the mouth and can include, but are not limited to, diabetes; stroke; and heart disease.
·         If your mouth has the following symptoms of gum disease : ruddy or swollen gums; blood found upon brushing your teeth; bad breath; or gums receding from teeth, you may already have a gum disease and should focus on getting immediate dental care
·         Before your arthritis develops, you should have frequent Dental visits – at least, twice a year, unless otherwise noted – to Dr. Kezian and staff. They know how to take care of you and will provide you with the best care for your teeth.
·         You should also begin to brush your teeth at least twice a day; floss once a day, unless otherwise needed more; and use mouth rinse to cleanse all bacteria from your mouth.
Dental_care
Reversing The Effects:
·         You can reverse the affects of gum disease by adapting a healthy routine of dental care.
·         If you choose to get your teeth cleaned at least twice a year, you will notice a huge difference in your oral hygiene.
·         Adapting a thorough regimen of brushing, flossing, and rinsing will eliminate all unhealthy bacteria from your gums.
·         If you have good dental care, do not forsake continuing on in your care as your health depends on it.
Visiting The Dentist:
·         If you already have poor gums and teeth; it is not too late to start working on your oral hygiene. Begin by coming to the Dentist and making it a regular experience.
·         When you visit him, ask him all the questions you may have about how to fix the side effects of years of poor hygiene.
·         Listen to him and do not try to argue; he knows what he is talking about. If you do not understand something, ask him to clarify it.
·         Begin to adapt lifestyle changes to help your dental – and over all – care.
·         If started and caught, it is possible to completely ratify the spread of the bacteria found in gum diseases.  You can be completely free from all the health woes that come with improper dental care.
If you have had arthritis pain, it may because of the health of your gums and mouth. Researchers have linked these together as commonly occurring as one. To get rid of the pain, you can begin to adapt a healthy understanding and practice of hygiene in your mouth. Begin to visit your Dentist at least two times a year; brush your teeth twice a day (at least); use floss and mouthwash; and pay attention to any symptom of gum disease that may arise. You can reverse the affects of arthritis and other health-related issues if you adapt good oral hygiene and have good dental care.
