Dental Veneers - What Do Veneers Do For You?

By Arthur Kezian

We all know that first impressions really do matter, and that everyone reacts efficiently to an attractive look. A nice smile falls into the category of an attractive look, but unfortunately, your teeth are sustainable to getting stained from things like smoking or drinking coffee. Your teeth also change as you age. Thus, a beautiful set of pearly whites will not only create a better look for you, but will also help you look a lot younger. You can ask your dentist about fixing your teeth and one of the more lasting solutions that he/she will suggest is dental veneers.

So what are veneers? They are a thin layer of material (usually porcelain) placed and bonded over the surface of your tooth to either improve the aesthetics of that tooth or fix any damages, fractures, or discolorations.

What does the procedure involve? First, your dentist will remove between 0.5 and 1 mm of enamel from the surface of your tooth. This will enable your veneers to adhere to the tooth completely.

Then, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth using a plastic like material. After this impression is dried and fixed, it is sent to a dental laboratory where your veneers will be made. It is important that the impressions are correct because it allows the laboratory to create an extremely precise model of your teeth. After your impressions are made, your dentist will place temporary veneers onto your teeth until the actual ones are made.

At the dental laboratory, a greatly complicated set of steps take place to create your veneers as near to perfect as possible. Your dentist will take the time to create coating after coating of porcelain material on your veneers to get the correct appearance. After altering the veneers to their exact measurements and shade, they are sent back to your dentist.

Once the veneers are done, they will be placed onto the surface of your teeth. But, before the veneers are permanently bonded, your dentist will temporarily put the veneers into place checking for their shape and color to make sure everything is just right.

Your dentist will ask you to come into the room and will remove the temporary veneers. The dentist will clean up the area around the veneers and you will be ready for the next step – bonding.

Finally, your fantastic new veneers are placed onto your teeth. They will be altered according to your liking, and any excess concrete will be removed, leaving you with a new and magnificent look.

If you want a truly wonderful look that makes you look excellent, much more youthful, and you want them to last, then you can always look into dental veneers. Practitioners will be able to treat you in a comfortable environment with experienced professionals offering a higher than normal standard of treatment.
