The term "root canal" has been known to illicit fear from the bravest of humans. However, modern dental techniques have vastly improved the treatment of root canals. Consequently, your root canal dentist will know how to treat you with the absolute minimum of pain and discomfort.
Why do you need a root canal procedure? Possibly because you have chipped a tooth therefore the tooth has become infected. Perhaps you have lost a filling and the nerve is exposed, then become infected. Decay is another reason to need a root canal dentist, particularly if the decay has gone past the enamel and the underlying dentin and into the sensitive pulp chamber where the tooth root is found.
Abscesses are another reason root canal procedure is necessary. Whichever the reason one needs root canal surgery, you would be wise to find an excellent dental surgery.
Once all the pulp and nerve is extracted from the tooth, it is then injected with antibacterial medicine, to prevent further infection. This will need to remain on the tooth for several days; the patient will need to come back to the root canal dentist later, for the remainder of the surgery.
When the dentist has examined the patient at a later date and found that there are no bacteria, the cavity can be filled. This is done with substance with a rubber-like consistency, and followed up with anti-bacterial cement. This prevents any further infection in the tooth.
Are you going to be in agony after your root canal surgery? No. There will be some discomfort for about a week after the surgery is finished. But pain relief is a vital part of root canal surgery and at your dentist you can be sure your dentist will want you to be in as little pain as possible.
If you need any dental treatment, and you want a caring professional service with qualified and experienced dentists then you must visit a root canal dentist.
