A Debate Sparked by AHA’s Research in the Dental Community

By Arthur Kezian
Whether you are a dental professional, a dental copywriter or simply a dentist, by now you must have already heard of the hot debate about the research that periodontal disease is not linked to heart disease. It was published by the American heart association.  Dr. Kezian and staff together with other medical professionals from across the country are debating the fact that this new research has significant affect on many widely accepted theories especially those of oral systematic health (including the correlation between heart health and gum health).

An Overview of AHA’s New Research:
·         The American Heart association finally published its conclusions from the study that included top names in the medical industry. Following this publication NPR also decided to follow along as they published the same findings on the internet. The conclusions that were drawn suggest that the link between heart disease and gum disease has to do more with your health choices and lifestyle and not as a result of the effects of gum inflammation and infection as previously thought to be.
·         Following the close scrutiny and review of evidence, the panel of experts working on the research deduced that it is still the same lifestyle choices such as obesity and smoking that are to blame for the incidence leading to gum disease. This is especially for patients already suffering from heart problem and related ailments or health complications. In fact, the idea of inflammation present in gum disease inflaming the arteries and other structures of the heart was rebuked by the panel of researchers. The America Heart Association also came to a conclusion that there was not enough evidence to support the claim that oral bacteria was attached to plaques of fatty deposits in the cardio vascular system.

Details about Research and Latest Trends:

AHA’s studies strongly support the advocacy efforts of the association as well as that of its members mainly because they are all working towards providing the best health care services not only to patients but also every other person in need of the same health services throughout the whole country. In fact, from the AHA’s website it is very easy to find out more about the research as well as further analysis of all important and emerging trends related to health care and heart disease. AHA also sponsors research policy especially in areas of provider payments, hospitals with limited service as well as the cost of health care, technology and other topics in order to make it easier for members and policy makers to understand issues critical to health care in hospitals.
·         Hospital and health Trends: each year AHA releases a series of reports relating to hospital trends and information on health. Dr. Kezian and staff take pride in spreading the awareness among the masses. This features data from different independent sources including the AHA annual survey. This report is usually made available through the trend watch chart book. Any other reports related to the same are released throughout the year touching on issues such as workforce shortage, ED diversions, health care costs, disaster preparedness and other topics that are of significance in the field of health care.
·         AHA Policy Research: involves examining of some of the key issues especially those related to policy making processes. Prominently featuring is the trend watch series: a periodic publication about gum disease that serves to report on the latest trend and developments that affect hospitals and the health care system in general.
All said and done about heart disease, but the fact remains that there are many eyebrows being raised about the recent research! In case of anything feel free make your voice heard by sharing your opinions with Dr. Kezian.

Suspected Factors Causing Bad Breath Discussed
It is normal to experience bad breath at one point or another. Some believe that having bad breath means you do not take good care of your teeth, and that not being able to treat bad breath forces you to live with it. The good news is now you can solve the problem of bad breath; all you need to do is be ready to accept change. You need to change the manner in which you manage you oral health and follow the oral health maintenance tips of Dr. Kezian and staff.
       i.            Food and drinks: digestion of foods such as onions and garlic normally end up in the bloodstream and as a result some particles of the same end up in the lungs. With time this comes out in the form of foul smelling breath. Brushing, flossing, and mouthwash can help temporarily mask the odors consequently keeping your breath fresh. Alternatively, in case you know you are headed for a social situation simply avoid eating or drinking such food items that are likely to cause the foul smell.
ii.            Poor oral Hygiene:  failing to properly or completely not remove food particles and bacteria from your mouth can also cause the foul smell. In short, to avoid the foul smell simply make sure that you brush and floss your teeth every day; failure to do so will cause bacteria to grow in your mouth leaving unwanted bad breathe. Along with brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash, make sure to brush your tongue as well. Also, if you use retainers, mouth guards, partials or dentures, then you must make sure you keep them clean. Alternatively, try antibacterial mouth rinse if the bad breath still lurks in your mouth as suggested by Dr. Kezian.
iii.            Consumption of tobacco products: smoking in particular gives you bad breath. Therefore, if you truly want to get rid of the fouls smell caused by tobacco products simply stop using them. Once you quit using tobacco products, brushing and flossing should follow in handy to help restore good breath.
iv.            Deteriorating health conditions: failing to closely monitor your oral and bodily health condition may lead to foul smell. Take note, gum disease, oral infections, dry mouth or gum disease are all potential causes of foul smell.

Dental Implants Discussed in Details

By Arthur Kezian
A missing tooth can ruin your smile and make you look older as well. What’s more, Dr Kezian suggests that if left unattended, a missing tooth will lead to development of a variety of health complications e.g. tooth decay, painful TMJ disorders, or even gum disease. At first, bridgework and full or partial dentures were the only ways of dealing with cases of missing teeth. However, at the moment, continuous technological advancements have paved the way for modern dental science to come up with a variety of options, implants being one of them, that have proven to be very effective in restoring the look of your smile after losing a tooth. Below you will learn more about the process of dental implantation as well as the benefits linked to it.
Dental_implant_dentist
The Dental Implant Procedure:
This process takes place in two main phases:
·         First phase, osseointegration: the implant (a tiny screw like device made from titanium) is surgically inserted into the jaw bone.
·         The implant is left for a couple of months to fully heal.
Advantages of the Dental Implant:
·         Teeth function: Dental implants are placed below the gum line meaning you won’t have to worry about your teeth ever slipping, sliding or in need of any form of adjustments.
·         The appearance of your smile: Dentists responsible for overseeing the dental implantation process will do quality dental work. By the time they are done no one should notice that your tooth is an implant; the dental implants should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth. As a result, you will be able to smile without worrying about the aesthetics of your teeth.
·         Overall mouth health: Being that the implant is completely integrated to the part of the mouth [the jaw bone] the bone tissues will continue to remain healthy and strong. In fact, with dental implantation you won’t have to worry about bone deterioration usually associated with long term denture wear. Apart from the above, dental implants are also impervious to decay since they usually restore the proper spacing right along the dental arch. Dental implants will help you keep your teeth clean and disease free.

What You Should Do Before Getting Dental Implants:
Prior to making a decision to go for dental implants, you should make an appointment with your family dentist. This is important because he will conduct a thorough examination of your jaw bone to find out whether you have the bone strength required to support implants. If you qualify, then you are set for the dental implantation process which is a very good decision for the long term health as well as beauty of your smile.
Once you have qualified for dental implants, feel free to find out all there is to know about dental implantation costs, how insurance cover is involved and details of all the payment options.
Your dental office is the best source of information especially on matters about dental implants, hence, you should only consult with them bearing in mind that they have experience. For more information about dental implants you can visit Dr. Kezian’s website linked below.

Cosmetic Dental Braces - Make Your Teeth Look Beautiful

By Arthur Kezian
A lovely smile can create a great impression. However, many adults have uneven teeth and dental braces significantly help in correcting this embarrassing problem. It is ideal for those who have teeth with gaps or unevenness. Most people who have uneven or gapped teeth encounter difficulties in social interactions which affect their romantic interests, friendships and at times even their careers.  This is usually because these people avoid smiling and exposing their teeth which speaks volumes about their self-confidence. Dr. Kezian is a dental specialist from Los Angeles dealing who deals with orthodontics in individuals suffering from problems related to uneven teeth alignment. Dr. Kezian and his staff are well trained in resolving the problems related to teeth alignment using some of the most advanced technology.

Dental Braces
Dental Braces are one of the more popular and traditional methods that have been used as a corrective option for uneven teeth. However, the cost and level of discomfort associated with this technique has kept many adults from seeking this treatment. The metal mouth appearance looks awkward for many and most prefer having imperfect teeth instead of appearing in society with a mouth full of metal. Clear aligners are now increasingly replacing dental braces with metal without compromising on the realigning effects of braces.
Some of the key features of aligners include;
·         It offers similar realigning effects as that of metal braces.
·         It is removable.
·         It ‘s more comfortable than metal braces
·         One would need to wear them for not more than a year to correct an uneven smile.
Clear aligners are increasingly becoming the preferred advanced method compared to the traditional method of metal braces. Dr. Kezian and staff understand the increasing preference of clear aligners over metal braces in today’s world.

Clear Aligners – a new concept of Adult Orthodontic Treatment
Clear aligners have gone on to become the most sought after alternative to traditional braces. It has paved the way for a new form of orthodontics treatment by eliminating the use of wires or brackets. However, the person will have to remove these aligners while eating, drinking and brushing.
A combination of traditional braces and aligners are also available.
·         It looks like the traditional wire-and-bracket braces, but wires are white in colour and the braces are invisible in its design.
·        It is designed to provide comfort for the individual wearing them and is also considered to be low force orthodontics.
The usual time period for correcting the smile is usually 6 months.  These aligners can be used only as cosmetic appliances. For repairing jaw alignment or teeth that are severely crooked or crowded, these kind of cosmetic braces are not ideal. Usually impressions are taken for getting the right detail regarding the teeth position so that the cosmetic braces are designed accordingly. The materials used for taking the teeth impressions are Polyether and Polyvinyl Siloxane. The doctor will analyze the initial tooth’s position in the arch and also the inter-relationship between the teeth on the opposing arch. A detailed treatment plan will then be provided.
The patient record will usually consist of upper and lower impressions, Intra-Oral and Extra-Oral photographs of patients along with Radiographs. After aligners are delivered to the patient, periodic checkups are done to see how the patient is progressing. With respect to the time period mentioned by Dr. Kezian and staff, the patient will be able to see the small changes, with the teeth slowly aligning and adjusting as per the treatment plan with precise results being achieved.
